Birth is Beautiful

There are two things I’m completely passionate about

1. Birth/Babies

2. Photography

I came upon birth photography because of an incredible photo a friend shared on facebook of a baby born en caul (still in the bag of waters)  that is shown below 4th down.  Really I would have put it first but I didn’t want to scare anyone away who might be put off by that kind of photo but I think it is beautiful.  The more I study birth photography the more I feel like it is a match made in my own personal heaven.  This is what I want to direct my photography someday.  I have three wonderful moms that are allowing me to capture this most incredible time in life coming up and I couldn’t be more thrilled.  Babies are just so special and there is no greater love in this world than that between parents and children and all those emotions pour out on the day a new little life comes into the world.

I’m pretty sure I’m only going to be able to do those three births this year.  Having 3 little kids and my own baby make it difficult to pick up and leave for up to 24 hours at a time. Someday though this is where I mainly want to focus.

Leilani Rogers is the photographer I want to be like.  I love her work.  Everything below is her’s and just a few of my favorites. In fact I have all new favorites since I pulled these photos a while back.  I encourage you to visit her blog and get lost in all the beautiful birth stories she gets to be a part of.

Do You Want to be a Snowman?

My oldest girl wanted to sing “In Summer” from Frozen for our church’s talent night.  It was her first performance ever and she did great!  I had costumes for my other two kiddos just in case they wanted to get up and dance along to her singing at the last moment.  We took these photos right before we went and I. LOVE. THEM.

I had no idea they were going to turn out so cute! I hope you enjoy them like I did. This is giving me inspiration for next year’s Christmas card.

Summer!

My little girl Summer is pretty challenging to catch and take a photo of. That is, if you can get her to wear something besides just underwear and a black cape first.  Her favorite activity is running through the house in just her cape and singing “Let it Go” from Frozen at the top of her lungs.  It is pretty entertaining actually.

Well I wanted to take some nice photos of all my kiddos and I knew I would have to make it short and sweet.  Just a few good ones and then I would be done.  Amazingly enough Summer saw one of her older sister’s dresses that is too small now and said “OOohhh pretty!” She then put it on and proceeded to have a great time in it and I got to catch some of it on camera!  😀

Our Awkward Family Photos

I wanted to do Christmas cards this year but I wanted them to be unique.  I searched all over for ideas on how to make ours stand out and finally I got inspiration to do our own awkward family photos.  If you are unfamiliar with this concept.  Please visit http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com  you are welcome.

Here are a few gems we got our inspiration from

We had a great time going to the thrift store to get a few festive things to wear.  Then one Saturday we put it all together.  The thing about awkwardness is, it is really easy to pull off and the possibilities are endless once you start going down that road.  I would love to open up this kind of session to other families next year.  It was a blast.  My husband was a pro at pulling this off.  Here are our best shots.

Olivia’s Young Women’s Medallion

In my church there is a program called Personal Progress for young women from 12-17.  It is hours of service and character building challenges that adds up to about the same amount of work as an Eagle Scout is for the boys.  When they complete it they get a medallion to wear.  It is a tremendous achievement and Olivia earned her’s super early. Most girls get theirs when they are 17 (I’m pretty sure I only had a week left before my 18th birthday when I finally finished mine) and Olivia completed her’s at 14! She is 15 now and she is such a jewel and I’m so happy to know her.

Giles Family Session

As my first post on my official Wendy Spinelli Photography blog, I am so happy to show you some shots from the Giles family!  We went to this new spot I hadn’t tried before and I LOVE it! It was a great break from the usual (but still pretty) greenery I usually shoot around.

I know most parents would be frustrated that their kid isn’t giving the perfect happy face but I have to say I LOVED this little cutie’s attitude. Maybe it is because she reminded me of my little girl’s ‘tude too.
